GCH to consider new name, logo

Amalgamations in Peterborough County may have reduced the number of municipalities from 21 to eight, but many of those original names still clutter township letterheads, business cards and signage.
Few municipal councils have found the fortitude to select new names for their amalgamated municipalities, North Kawartha Township being one of the exceptions.
North Kawartha could have become Chandos-Burleigh-Anstruther, or some variation of that.
Cavan-Monaghan took a half-step last year, with its new name a condensation of Cavan-Millbrook-North Monaghan, and the idea has surfaced several times in Smith-Ennismore-Lakefield in recent years.
Galway-Cavendish and Harvey Township Council has decided to take another look at the issue, following up on a recommendation from its Economic Development Committee (EDC).
CAO Pat Kemp told Tuesday’s council meeting the EDC was still awaiting council feedback on its main issues.
Those, according to Councillor Janet Clarkson, include assistance with the new tourist information booth in Buckhorn, improvements to parking and signage at Sandy Beach, and a new name and logo for the township.
Ms. Kemp said she would prepare a report for council’s next meeting on how the township could proceed.
