Rotary wants more trails
by Simon Conolly
The BEL Rotary Club is concerned about the lack of walking and biking trails in Smith-Ennismore-Lakefield, Ruth Kuchinad told council’s July 15 meeting.
She said the idea will be “top of mind” with the club for the next few years, and it wants to work with township staff to see what can be done.
Smith Ward Councillor Sherry Senis was ready with a prepared motion to establish a nine-person committee including two Rotary Club members, representation from the Bridgenorth Beautification Committee, the walkability group, the Recreation Department, and herself.
Deputy Reeve Mary Smith suggested a staff report might be in order.
“The timing is right, and our Director of Recreation has done some work [on the idea]. I’m willing to support it, but we need to hear from staff.”
Reeve Ron Millen called it “an excellent idea,” and suggested the details could be worked out later.
The motion was carried.
