Buckhorn Quilters’ Guild show in September

The Buckhorn Quilters’ Guild has announced the 2008 Quilt Show is being planned for September 5 to 7 at the Buckhorn Community Centre.

The Quilting at the Lakes Show is held every two years, according to Committee Chairperson Penny Pierce.

“This year’s theme is Falling for Christmas with an emphasis on Christmas designs and displays although all works of quilting are welcome from our membership,” she said.

This year’s feature quilter will be Sandy Simmelink, of Burlington, whose quilting has won several International Awards.

Also in attendance will be Rosalie Tennison, a certified quilt appraiser from the American Quilter’s Society.

Ms.Tennison’s role will be to supply either a verbal or written appraisal of quilts as a work of art for insurance purposes. Attendees are also encouraged to bring their quilts for appraisals by Ms. Tennison.

One of the lead exhibits will be the Hoffman Challenge Exhibit which features the First Placed piece, the best Youth Entry (by a seven-year-old quilter) and a quilt by winner Wanda Milankov of Orillia. This will be the only Canadian showing of this exhibit this year.

“We anticipate more than 200 entries from our 60 members here in the Buckhorn area, and from our children’s program,” said Pierce.

“It is a unique opportunity for community ladies to display their talents to those attending and to have them judged and assessed by experts in the quilting field.”

Guild members will be selling a variety of quilting items at their Christmas Boutique booth and a large selection of related vendors will also be present.

Show hours will be from from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday.

Net proceeds will be donated to the Peterborough Chapter of the Canada-wide Victoria’s Quilts Canada organization.
