‘All the Farm’s a Stage’

by Anita Locke

“Taking Shape: All the Farm’s a Stage” is a celebration of artists and performers in our community.

It takes place on Saturday, September 20 at Wits End Farm (McCracken’s Landing, 2171 McCracken’s Landing Road).

“This is a very exciting ‘first’ for an event of this kind. There is great artistic talent in this community and we are proud to present this event,” organizers say.

Using the grass, trees, buildings and farm vehicles, Wits End Farm will present the talents of local artists, musicians, dancers, authors, singers, comedians, and equestrian performance artists.

Artists, including Andrew Olscher, April Steele, Sandy Cline, Margot Whitfield and Jamie Hume will in attendance. The art exhibit, which runs from noon to 3:00, is free of charge.

Entertainment, which begins at 3:00 p.m., will be provided by Las Pecuecas (dance troupe), Tilly Kooyman and Neal Evans (performing “From the Bow”), Carrie O’Marra (singer), Washboard Hank, Shrimps Comedy, Joanne Findon (author), BobCajun (cajun music), Wes Ryan (choreographer/dancer), and Wayne Elliott (multimedia). Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door.

There will also be an eight-horse, “StartsWithQ”, musical performance.

All food served will come from within 50 miles of the farm, and most will be organic.

For those arriving by boat at the dock at McCracken’s Landing the event will provide a horse drawn wagon to take you to the farm.

The wagon rides, which must be booked in advance, are courtesy of Krista Reid. Price is $10 for a round trip ride or $5 one way.

Please bring your own lawnchairs.

Local supporters and sponsors include Wantasa Resort, Village Inn (Lakefield), Peterborough Arts Umbrella, Kawartha Home Hardware, Karl Moher, Lisa Carroll, April Steele, Happenstance and O’Marra’s Berry Farm.

Tickets are available at Happenstance Books (Lakefield), Peterborough Arts Umbrella (Simcoe and Aylmer, Peterborough 749-3220), O’Marra’s Berry Farm (Hall’s Glen), Spirit of the Fire (Young’s Point), Choate Supply Store (McCracken’s Landing) and Wits End Farm.
