Ripple Effects celebrates ORCA’s 50th anniversary

The Otonabee Region Conservation Authority turns 50 this year!

And, to mark the occasion, the Conservation Authority is hosting a celebration - ”Ripple Effects” – on Thursday, July 9 at the new Bridgenorth Public Library from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Sherry Senis, Chair of the Ripple Effects celebration and Vice-Chair of the Conservation Authority, describes the event as a celebration of conservation with a fund-raising auction.

“The Ripple Effects theme describes how our conservation messages and actions have made a difference throughout the watershed community over the past five decades. We [the Conservation Authority] have worked very hard with so many partners to build a conservation legacy we can all be proud of.”

The legacy began with the Authority’s purchase of the Warsaw Caves Conservation Area and Campground back in 1962.

“The fund-raising auction will help the Authority generate capital dollars to enhance visitor facilities and recreational opportunities at the Warsaw Caves Area,” says Senis.

The auction will feature an impressive selection of interesting and unique items that reflect the charm and character of the Otonabee Region watershed community.

“The bidding should get exciting for the items up for auction, including a sightseeing flight, a boat cruise, a muskie fishing trip, handcrafted canoe paddles, kayak, art, sculpture and theatre tickets,” adds Senis.

Ripple Effects will also feature live musical entertainment, light refreshments and appetizers as well as fresh local strawberries – all for the ticket price of $20 per person.

Tickets can be ordered/purchased at the Conservation Authority office (located at 250 Milroy Drive in Peterborough) or by contacting the ORCA Director in your municipality.
