Taizé service at Christ Church

The historic Christ Church in Lakefield is presenting a Taizé service on Sunday, August 16 at 7:00 p.m.

It is an opportunity to enjoy a short time of quiet, reflective worship and includes Scripture, prayer and songs. Providing music are Catherine Hawley on flute and Gwedhen Ouckama on keyboard.

Taizé is a non-denominational form of music developed at a small monastery in Taizé, a small village in the south of Burgundy, France.

In this village, over 60 years ago, Brother Roger founded a community devoted to prayer and living a parable of reconciliation within the church and the human family.

The Taizé form of worship is enriched by the variety and simplicity of the music and instruments. It is an ecumenical sung and silent participatory prayer service designed to achieve a contemplative state through music, song and silence.

Short chants, repeated again and again, give it a meditative character. Using just a few words, the chants express a basic reality of faith, quickly grasped by the mind. As the words are sung over many times, this reality penetrates the whole being.

The church is located on Queen Street, Lakefield, between Devonshire Tea House and Hendren’s Funeral Home. Everyone is welcome.
