Atom AE sweep Campbellford
The Lakefield Chiefs Atom AE team, sponsored by Doughty Aggregates put on an outstanding display of hockey in their first round of playoffs, resulting in a three game sweep of the Campbellford Colts.
Due to tournaments, Lakefield was forced to relinquish their home ice advantage, and had to travel to Campbellford for the first two games of the series.
In game one, Lakefield found themselves in tight, but managed to hang on for a 4-3 victory. A little rust after more than a week off may have contributed to the tight score, but the kids showed heart and never gave up.
Game two however proved to be a different story. After getting their legs in game one, the Chiefs put on a clinic, with fast skating, sharp passing and pinpoint shooting to capture a very convincing 7-1 victory. It was a team effort from front to back, with great goaltending, brick wall defense and outstanding offense.
Game three returned home to Lakefield and the team was pumped! The offense was firing on all cylinders and combined for nine markers. Meanwhile the defense and the goalie put up another solid performance behind our own blue line, allowing very few chances and basically shutting down the Campbellford offense. Final score was 9-1.
Congratulations to team members, Justin Paris, Chris Jeremiah, Danielle Pearcy, Mason Edwards, Joe Gennaro, Tyson Pearce, Martin Harris, Nick Morgan, Liam Rosborough, Calvin Julie, and Ben Heyden.
The Doughty Aggregates crew now has to wait for the winner of a series between Brighton and Ennismore to decide their next opponent.
In an effort to keep their game legs, the coaches have found some exhibition contests. We dropped a 4-2 decision to a select team from Whitby and battled to a 6-6 stalemate with the Douro Atom A team.
Way to go Chiefs. Good luck in the next series!
