Good news for homeowners in federal budget, Peterborough Green-Up says
Homeowners wishing to improve the energy-efficiency of their homes received good news in the recent federal budget.
The popular ecoENERGY Retrofit - Homes incentive program was increased by $80 million, allowing more Canadians to access grants before the program ends in March 2011.
“This is great news,” said Alex Mortlock, Manager of Energy Efficiency Services for Peterborough Green-Up.
“The increase will allow an additional 60,000 Canadian homeowners to participate in this successful incentive program which has already helped more than 230,000 Canadians to improve the energy-efficiency of their homes.”
Grants are available for such items as high efficiency furnaces and central air conditioners, Energy Star rated windows and doors, and insulation upgrades to the building envelope, to just to name a few.
Grants for renewable energy installations such as a solar hot water heating system and ground source heat pumps are also available.
Homeowners are urged to act right away to access these grants. “The grant program ends March 31, 2011,” said Mortlock. “Homeowners wishing to participate should not delay.”
To qualify for the ecoENERGY Retrofit – Homes program, homeowners must have an energy evaluation before and after their planned retrofits by a licenced ecoENERGY service organization such as Peterborough Green-Up.
ecoENERGY Retrofit Program is a home energy assessment program developed by Natural Resources Canada to help property owners make retrofit choices that improve the comfort and energy efficiency of their home.
