Douro-Dummer Comprehensive Zoning Bylaw nearing completion
by Terry McQuitty
Douro-Dummer council is one step closer to passing its Comprehensive Zoning Bylaw.
The Township has been working on the document since the fall of 2007, but has experienced several delays and changes in direction.
Text changes requested by ORCA and the Birch Cliff Property Owner’s Association were reviewed and a number of adjustments have been made.
One example of the changes included the 30 metre water yard setback in relation to non-complying and non-conforming uses and structures. The new wording makes the section clearer and easier to understand.
Schedule changes have also been made in the updated document. Floodplain mapping and cemeteries are just two examples of the concerns that were addressed.
The new comprehensive zoning bylaw must be approved by the County, but staff feels they are very close to completion and ready to present the bylaw to the public.
A tentative date of April 20 has been set for an informal open house and the date for the statutory public meeting has been set for May 18.
These meeting dates are reliant on the County’s approval of the bylaw. The public will be notified once the dates are confirmed.
