Discovery Dream Homes wins Home Builders award

Discovery Dream Homes, located at the corner of Hwy. 28 (formerly 134) and Hwy. 7, was named Manufacturer of the Year by the Peterborough and Kawartha Home Builders Association.

The announcement was made at the organization’s annual “Kawartha Awards of Distinction Gala” in November 2009.

The award evaluates a manufacturer by product, quality, price, reliability, integrity, continuous improvement and overall customer relations.

Discovery Dream Homes is a father-and-son owned and operated business. It designs and manufactures custom log and timber frame homes.

John and Ray King founded the business in 2003. The state-of-the-art facility consists of a 2,200 square foot on-site model home outfitted with a design and sales centre, as well as a 10,000 square foot factory fully equipped for manufacturing the log and timber frame homes.

The facility produces 40 to 50 projects and structures per year, including homes, garages, gazebos, pool houses and others. The company also works with local contractors to provide decorative exterior enhancements for their clients.

During the construction season the company employs about 20 people at its Peterborough location.

Design centre staff sit down with clients to determine their specific needs. A 3D model of the client’s home is then created which allows a virtual “walk through”; renderings and floor plans enable them to have a realistic perspective of their home before buying.

The company continually updates its software so that it is able to be on the ‘cutting edge’ of technology, providing for a realistic virtual rendering of what the home or structure will look like.

While Discovery Dream Homes services the local community, the company has also expanded its dealer network to offer its products to the global environment, including the United States, Europe, China, Australia and the U.K.

A second sales centre, located in the Bobcaygeon, has also been opened. A third centre is slated to be opened in the Barrie area in the spring of 2010.

Discovery Dream Homes is also an important community partner, assisting and supporting such organizations as Boy Scouts of Canada, Community Care, Cops for Kids, MADD Canada, the local school board, Festival of Trees and sponsorship of local childrens’ sports teams.

Discovery Dream Homes is a member of The Canada Green Building Council, Better Business Bureau, International Log Builders Association, Canadian Home Builders Association, Ontario Wood, and the Timber Framers Guild.
