Juniper Island Art Festival August 7, 8

August 7 and 8, 2010, marks the nineteenth year of the Juniper Island Art Festival, a two day event, featuring artwork and photography of artists, who live on Clear, Ston(e)y or White Lakes in the Kawarthas.

Opening night on Saturday, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. is celebrated with wine and hors d’oeuvres and is the first opportunity to view and purchase artwork/photography created during the past two years.

The Exhibition continues on Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

A team of volunteers plan, set up, jury and operate this outstanding exhibition and sale of original artwork produced by both professional and amateur artists.

The show also strives to encourage a future generation of artists by having a display of children’s artwork.

Of interest to everyone who comes to the show is a chance to win a prize. Each year, one of the artists has contributed the prize that has ranged from a gourmet home cooked meal to an original piece of art or a portrait painted of your choice.

Artists pay a fee to exhibit; visitors enter free, but are encouraged to make a donation to support the Association of Stony Lake Cottagers. The ASLC is a non-profit organization that funds various programs around the lake.

Although Juniper Island is situated on Stony Lake and therefore only accessible by boat, Viamede Resort offers a shuttle service to and from the show for a fee of $10 each way per person, ($40 for five or more).

They may be contacted directly at (705) 654-3344 or e-mail info@viamede.com. At least 24 hours advanced notice would be appreciated.

Boaters are encouraged to “boat pool” to relieve some of the docking congestion so come with a boat load of family and friends to a wonderful venue displaying art to please all ages and tastes.

Further information can be obtained by contacting the curator of the show, Heather Collins at (705) 654-4348. E-mails can be directed to Jiartfestival@aol.com.
