Quilt show in Buckhorn Sept. 10-12
The Buckhorn Quilters’ Guild is presenting its Quilt Show and Sale at the Buckhorn Community Centre September 10-12.
The Quilting at the Lakes Show is held every two years, according to Committee Chairperson Penny Pierce.
This year’s theme is Autumn Splendour. Many of the quilting works on display will be based on this theme.
Helen Fujiki, a world renowned quilter will be the Feature Quilter this year.
She has won many awards for her artwork and many of her pieces will be on display. She will be doing demonstrations and answering questions.
Helen was recently featured as a speaker at the Peterborough Museum.
Also featured will be quilt appraiser Rosalie Tennison, a certified quilt appraiser from the American Quilters’ Society.
Ms. Tennison’s role will be to supply an appraisal of quilts as works of art for appraisal purposes. Attendees are encouraged to bring their quilts for appraisal by Ms. Tennison.
There will over 200 members’ quilts displayed in the main building of the community centre as well as winning quilts from previous years.
Also included in the display is the Hoffman Challenge Collection which features prize winning quilts using a specific fabric from the Hoffman Fabric Company.
We are only one of two Canadian shows featuring this Collection.
The beautiful outdoor setting of this venue adds to the charm of the quilt show. Many vendors will be in the small buildings.
As well, a Members’ Boutique will have a variety of items made by members for sale. The focus in this area this year will be handmade baby quilts.
The show runs on Friday, September 10 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, September 11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, September 12 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Some of the proceeds of the show will be donated to the Rural Outreach Committee.
