Midget AE go 2-0 in playoff round robin
The Lakefield Chiefs Midget AE team (sponsored by Morris Chemicals and Lakefield Foodland) opened their round-robin playoff series this past weekend with a pair of wins.
Friday night saw the Chiefs in Fenelon Falls against the Sturgeon Thunder.
Brady Darling scored early in the first period for Lakefield (assisted by Josh Jacobs and Mike Parkinson).
This was followed by two goals from Alex Mucci (the first from Justin Ingram and the second from Dan Schmied and Cody Lech), a goal from Ingram (from Parkinson) and one from Schmied (from Mucci and Lech) to give Lakefield a 5-0 lead after the first.
Sturgeon scored one in the second period, but Lakefield got four more goals in the third (Schmied from Lech and Niklas Metcalfe, an unassisted effort from Nick Hahn, Lech from Parkinson, and Andrew Judges from Darling) to give the Chiefs a 9-2 win. Mack Featherstone had another solid performance in net.
Saturday night the Chiefs hosted the Norwood Hornets.
It was a close game through two periods, with Lech opening the scoring for Lakefield in the first (assisted by Schmied and Parkinson).
Lakefield went up by two on an unassisted goal from Lech midway through the second; however, Norwood fought back to tie the game before James McLellan (from Parkinson) put Lakefield ahead for good.
Sustained pressure paid off for the Chiefs in the third, as Parkinson (from Schmied and McLellan), Hahn (unassisted) and Andrew Judges (from Arun Brar) all scored. Featherstone made some key saves in a 6-2 win for Lakefield.
The Chiefs’ next game is this Saturday night in Norwood.
