Polar Paddle: canoes will roar down Queen St.

Preparations for the 3rd annual Polar Paddle are well under way. This is an event which sees teams of six push a canoe on wheels down Queen Street in Lakefield on February 4 at 1:00 p.m.

Organizer Jennie MacKenzie of Lakefield Pantry says there has been a fantastic interest in the event this year and she is expecting lots of entries. Contestants are encouraged to dress in costume for a chance to win the Best Costume award at the end of the day.

Another unique feature of the event is a Roto Spa hot tub which will be set up on the patio of the Thirsty Loon, a prime spectator spot for the event.

Anyone 19 years of age or older can enter a draw for the chance to watch the races from the comfort of the hot tub. Ballots are available at the Thirsty Loon with your donation to the local food bank.

Anyone looking for more information can contact Jennie at 705-652-6062 or lakefieldpantry@cogeco.ca or check out the Polarfest.ca website.
