Atom A dump Brighton in playoff series opener

The Lakefield Chiefs Atom A and the Brighton Braves commenced their first of a series of six games January 29 at the Brighton Community Centre.

The starting lineup for the Chiefs were on forward positions Alex Pineo, Brendan Koch and Ethan Daynes and on defense James Wootten and Mark Nicolson with Hayden Melburn tending goal.

The game was exciting for both supporters and fans. The Chiefs were the first to score at about six and a half minutes into the first period with the Braves tying the game up 10 seconds later.

The Chiefs kept the pressure on the Braves with effective passing, defense and splendid goal tending and managed to defeat the Braves with a score of 7-3.

Goal scorers for the Chiefs were Brendan Koch (3), one goal on a breakaway and two with assists from Alex Pineo and Ryan Mcllwain; Alex Pineo (2) with assists from Ryan Mcllwain, Brendan Koch and Ethan Daynes; Cameron Julie with assists from Ryan McIlwain and Nicholas Mills; and Marcus Blair with assist from Ryan McIlwain.

The next game against the Braves is tentatively scheduled for February 4 at 6 p.m. in Lakefield.
