GCH councillor frustrated over meeting attendance
by Christina Millington
Frustrations were voiced by Galway-Cavendish and Harvey council member Bev Matthews during the Jan. 8 council meeting regarding aggregate plans with the City of Kawartha Lakes.
Matthews touched on a few concerns of a Dec. 14, 2012 meeting regarding the unnecessary attendance of CAO, Pat Kemp, as it was the responsibility of a council member to be in attendance and a required delegation on behalf of the Mayor to have assigned such obligations accordingly.
Galway-Cavendish and Harvey council was the only council not present at the meeting (Dec. 14) which had the Mayor of City of Kawartha Lakes and various other council members in attendance.
Matthews has voiced many concerns during past meetings, however, the council members’ concerns regarding mayor Clarkson’s disregard for a council member’s attendance at a meeting involving plans that potentially impact quarries and hauling routes in the area did not go unnoticed.
Further discussion regarding councils’ presence at future meetings with the City of Kawartha Lakes will be considered as resolution was not met at the Jan. 8 meeting.
