Chiefs secure second place in league

The Lakefield Chiefs of the Central Ontario Jr. C League secured at least a second place finish in the standings following a 7-2 win over the Georgina Ice Tuesday night at home.

The Chiefs have 51 points, fifteen ahead of the third place Clarington Eagles with only six games left in the regular season.

Lakefield still has an outside chance for first trailing the first place Uxbridge Bruins by six points, however Lakefield has one game in hand.

Lakefield held a 5-1 lead after the first period Tuesday and cruised to their 24th win of the season. Derek Manley led Lakefield with a goal and three assists, Matt Perass had two markers, with singles to Eric Shewell, Nathan Larson, Jordan Walsh and Curtis Bolton. Dustin Cook got the win in goal stopping 31 shots.

Lakefield will not see action again until Tuesday, January 22 when they will host the Little Britain Merchants.

Chiefs Healthy

Taylor Reece, who was injured in November will undergo surgery on his knee this month and is out for the season.

However for the first time in a while Lakefield is healthy other than Reece.

Stephen Woodbeck and Riley Campbell sat out their last game of their 2 game suspension.
