Sunday fire knocks out Nexicom

by Christina Millington

About 3,000 Nexicom customers were without various telecommunication services this week after lightning struck the Nexicom facility just outside Bridgenorth on Sunday morning.

Telephone, internet and cable television services were all still off line as The Herald went to press Wednesday morning.

According to Nexicom Sales and Marketing Manager, Julie Howe Nexicom has assessed the situation and has determined that all of the equipment in the Bridgenorth facility has been destroyed by the fire.

A temporary building that will house new equipment arrived at the Nexicom location on Tuesday.

“Nexicom technicians will now begin to install the new equipment inside that facility and begin restoration procedures,” said Howe.

“Phone lines are anticipated to be restored by Friday.”

Howe also reports that racks have been installed inside the building and that technicians are diligently connecting routers and equipment.

Also, fibre cables are presently being pulled in and tower climbers and electricians are on site.

According to Howe, Nexicom remains optimistic that some services should be restored by today.

“Nexicom wants to thank everyone who has offered their help and understanding,” said Howe.

“Paul Downs, President of Nexicom is overwhelmed by the generosity of the community during this difficult time.”
