$1 million bill for Pirate’s Glen watermain replacement in GCH
by Christina Millington
Galway-Cavendish and Harvey council discussed tenders for the replacement of potable water service lines in the Township of Galway-Cavendish and Harvey on Jan. 22.
Contractors submitted bids to GCH council for replacing water service lines to all residents along Pirate’s Glen and Alpine Lake Road subdivision as well as “branching” crescents.
According to reports approximately 200 homes require new service lines which will include new saddles, main stops, pipes, cathodic protection (a technique used to control the corrosion of a metal surface) and curb stop.
The contract will also require the contractor to sample and flush redundant hydrants with the installation of new ones.
Once the new tender is selected the project is expected to take place in the spring and summer of 2013.
The current tendered bids are from McKever Irrigation for $1,111,808, Kawartha Capital for $1,136,993, Balterre Construction Limited for $968,182.60, Accurex Inc. for $1,016,940.32, Coco Paving for $922,269.94, and Nick Carchidi for $1,110,732.23.
