Lakefield doctor killed in white water accident
Dr. Steve Senior, 65, of Bridgenorth, and a doctor at the Morton Community Healthcare Centre in Lakefield, died Monday night at Blount Memorial Hospital in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Senior was with a group of white water enthusiasts running the Little River in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Park authorities were alerted at 12:41 p.m. Monday that Senior was pinned under water.
Senior’s canoe had overturned and he was swept down river and trapped, according to the Knoxville Daily News. Members of the group Senior was with are trained in white water rescue and began rescue operations before authorities arrived.
Emergency personnel arrived at the scene just as Senior’s fellow canoeists were pulling him from the water and administering CPR.
