Buckhorn Fine Art Festival August 17-18
By Jaclyn Witherly
The Buckhorn Fine Art Festival is back, this year running from August 16-18, with the grand opening on the evening of Friday, August 16.
The opening night will feature a garden party at the Buckhorn Community Centre from 7 to 10 p.m. This will give people a chance to visit and speak to the artists and have first choice at purchasing pieces.
The festival will continue over Saturday and Sunday with a special exhibit by Arabella magazine, a Canadian art, architecture and design publication. There will be over 90 professional artists, displaying and working on their pieces. All work is original and consists of fine art as well as miniatures and prints, sculptures and tapestries.
Live music will entertain guests as they browse the artwork, and there is also an art competition and a youth art display. The Youth Art is meant to encourage children’s creativity and nurture their young talents in visual art. Any child aged 6 to 12 can enter their pieces to share with the public.
Some of the activities are interactive and the public is welcome to participate and enter the art contest. Professional artists are there to provide information and teach about their techniques and the booths are all outdoors among the trees and gardens to add to the experience.
The doors are open from 10 am to 5 pm. The cost for a single day is $7, $20 for the whole weekend in advance or $25 at the door.
