Local Special Olympics Soccer Team played in Provincial Games
Over two dozen Lakefield Foodland employees played feisty matches with four different teams of the Special Olympics Soccer teams they sponsor including the Falcons, the Eagles, the Cougars and the Prowlers.
For four years, Ross Bletsoe and Lakefield Foodland have generously underwritten the uniforms, medals and tournaments for athletes that now number over 40 with an additional 20 coaches led by Head Coach Betsy McGregor, also from Lakefield.
Three rules govern the season: Have Fun, Build Skills and Treat Your Team Like a Family.
Both the Falcons and Prowlers won all their games in the Regional playoffs with the Prowlers advancing to represent our Region at the Provincial Games.
“While they did not advance to Nationals, our athletes lived up to the Special Olympics motto: ‘Let me win; but if I cannot, let me be brave in my attempt’. We are immensely proud of our athletes and very appreciative of Tim Hortons (Lansdowne and Monaghan) and our main sponsor Lakefield Foodland,” said Head Coach Betsy McGregor.
