Lakefield Historical Society begins fall program Sept. 26
by Neil Wasson
Thursday, September 26 at 7:00 p.m. the Lakefield Historical Society will begin its fall program presentations at the Lakefield Legion. All are welcome.
Local historian Don Willcock will speak on “Origins of Local Place names: Obvious and Obscure”. He will explain the origin and varied reason for the naming of Peterborough County communities.
Among others, he will touch upon Douro, Buckhorn, Asphodel, Peterborough and Keene and most certainly Lakefield and Dummer.
Don will reveal why the Duke of Wellington and the Duke of Richmond, neither of whom ever set foot in Canada, let alone our area had such influence in our names.
