Chemong Lions barbecue for Survivors Abreast Dragon boaters

The Survivors Abreast Dragon Boat team, made up of 11 paddlers and a steer person, paddled their way up and 13 paddlers and a steer person paddled back down the Trent Severn Water System.

The team went from Little Lake in Peterborough through the Liftlocks and beyond to Lock 23 on Sunday, September 8.

The event was originally scheduled for September 7, but postponed due to inclement weather.

This was their second annual trek up the waterway. They left Little Lake Marina at 9:30 Sunday morning to Maria Street lock then up to the Liftlocks.

From there they paddled to lock 22 and 23 . At lock 23 Lock Operator Larry Dooghue treated them to a barbecue lunch and refreshments.

The Chemung Lake District Lions and Lakefield, Ennismore Foodland had graciously supplied the food.

Organizer Sheila Linsey a paddler and a survivor said that this a way to spread word that there is a life after breast cancer diagnosis for both women and men.

The Survivors Abreast Dragon Boat team raced this year at Pickering Festival (Toronto) the Peterborough Festival, Hamilton and in August in Burlinghton, Vermont where the team won a silver in 500 and 200 meter races.

They will end the season September 14 in Stratford. The event up the Liftlocks and beyond to Lock 23 was a fun, relaxing day. A great way to end the paddling season.
