Del Mastro “disappointed” with new electoral boundaries
Dean Del Mastro, Member of Parliament for Peterborough expressed disappointment Tuesday following the release of the Final Report of the Ontario Commission charged with the Redistribution of Federal Electoral Districts.
“I am disappointed to learn that the Commission did not consider the input from our region or regional MPs with respect to establishing the boundaries of the Peterborough Riding,” stated Del Mastro.
“The Townships of Asphodel-Norwood and Otonabee-South Monaghan have strong historical and social ties to Peterborough. The residents of these Townships, rallied and fought to remain in the Peterborough electoral district. They completed stacks of petitions and wrote to both the commission and my office.
“It is really too bad that, in the end, the Commission chose to ignore them and the unanimous all-party recommendations of a House of Commons committee to reconsider the very boundaries that they have now confirmed.”
The decision of the Commission is now final, with no recourse and the new boundaries are likely to be in effect for the next general federal election.
