Lakefield uses shootout to best Port Perry 3-2
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Lakefield Chiefs defeated the Port Perry Mojacks in a shootout 3-2 (1-0 SO) on Tuesday, October 8.
The shootout featured five attempts between both teams.
Lakefield was led by Mitch Stewart, who registered one goal. Stewart scored 7:50 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Lakefield. Ryan Saunders provided the assist.
The Chiefs were led by Stewart, who finished with one goal.
Lakefield forced Port Perry goalie Jeff Julien to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.
Shawn Mackie also scored for Lakefield. More assists for Lakefield came via Keenan Runnalis and Eric Shewell, who each chipped in one.
The Mojacks excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances.
Port Perry was led by Conner Shingler, who racked up two goals. Shingler scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 14:13 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Lakefield.
The Mojacks had taken the advantage when the Chiefs’ Shewell got sent off for cross checking. Brodie Meyers picked up the assist.
Shingler’s next tally on the power play made the score 2-2 with 4:14 left in the third period. A too many men penalty on Jacob Tracy APM had put Port Perry on the power play. Jeff St. Pierre provided the assist.
In addition, Port Perry received assists from Joe Lamanna and Owen Bateman, who contributed one a piece.
Zach Wainman rejected 24 shots on goal for Lakefield. The Chiefs incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. For Lakefield, Ryan Anderson was ejected from the game.
Jeff Julien made 28 saves for the Mojacks on 30 shots. Port Perry incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
