Douro shines at Liftlock tournament with three teams

Last weekend can be considered a successful one for local minor hockey teams competing in the 56th annual Peterborough Liftlock Atom Hockey Tournament.
The Douro Dukes sent three entries to the prestigious tournament, considered the best of its kind in Ontario for atom-level players.
In the D-Division the Dukes would take home the championship with a 4-3 overtime win against the Millbrook Stars.
The Dukes would kick-off the tournament with a 9-1 win against the Casselman-Embrun Icedogs before winning 11-0 against the RWC Crusaders and 16-2 against the Gloucester Orleans Blues.
The Dukes would squeak out a 3-2 victory versus the Nepean Raiders before winning the championship in the final day against Millbrook.
The Dukes B team also had a good showing winning the E-division title 4-2 over the Clarington Wolves. The Dukes would open the tournament with a 2-2 tie versus the Percy Bulldogs before picking up a 7-2 win over the Peterborough All-Saints and a 5-3 victory over Peterborough Blue.
The team would get the better of the Percy Bulldogs in the semi-final as the team won a close decision 4-3 before moving onto the final.
The Douro Dukes A/E team would not pick up any hardware like their fellow teams did have a good showing, picking up a 3-2 win over the Manvers Mustangs and a 6-1 victory over the South Muskoka Bears.
The Dukes would tie the Highland Storm 3-3 pushing them into the semi-final round where they would eventual be upset 6-1 by the Woodville Hurricanes.
The Lakefield Chiefs Atom B team would also have a tough weekend as the squad would finish 0-3 after a 17-1 loss to Canterbury, a 7-4 loss to the Holiday Ford Minor Petes and a 7-4 decision at the hands of Peterborough Teal.
For the Ennismore Eagles, although a valiant effort was given, both teams would have a tough weekend.
In the C-Division, the Eagles would have a rough start to the weekend dropping a 9-1 score to the Ottawa Silver Seven. The team would open the second day of play with another tough loss to the Port Hope Phantoms 10-1 before dropping a close decision with the Peterborough Petes 3-2.
The Eagles would round out the day with a 5-1 win against the Quinte West Hawks but due to their record were eliminated from championship contention.
The Ennismore Eagles Atom B team dropped its opening decision to Peterborough Petes 4-3 and would end up 0-3 on the weekend with a 12-1 loss to Almonte-Pakenham and a 1-0 loss to the Sturgeon Lake Thunder.
