Chiefs dump Georgina 6-0
A hat trick by Derek Manley was the highlight in the Lakefield Chiefs’ 6-0 win against the Georgina Ice Tuesday in Lakefield.
Manley’s first goal came 10:24 into the second period. He then added goals at 11:40 into the second and at 5:16 into the third.
Georgina trailed by one after the first period, but the Lakefield Chiefs went into the second intermission with a 5-0 lead and never looked back.
Lakefield stifled the Ice’s power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Chiefs were steadier on the defensive front than they have been for much of this season.
Lakefield allows 2.4 goals per game. The Chiefs’ offense rang up 36 shots on Georgina’s net.
Lakefield additionally got points from Ryan Anderson, who also had one goal and one assist and Nathan Larson, who also registered one goal and two assists.
Jordan Walsh also scored for Lakefield. In addition, Lakefield received assists from Eric Oosting and Connor Blair, who each chipped in one and Devin Gilbert and Ryan Saunders, who contributed two a piece.
The Ice put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Lakefield to score on any of its three power plays.
Georgina did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Ice put an average of 2.2 pucks into the net per game.
Kevin Collins made 22 saves for the Chiefs on 22 shots. Lakefield incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
Ethan Slimowitz rejected 30 shots on goal for Georgina. The Ice incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
The Chiefs 20 game win streak ended with weekend 4-3 losses to Uxbridge and Port Perry.
