Spark Photo Festival to include Lakefield exhibitions
by Ben Clarke
Following a successful first year, organizers have announced the 2nd Annual Spark Photo Festival will take place for the entire month of April.
The Spark Photo Festival is a celebration of photography, and the artists, dreamers, innovators, storytellers, professionals and enthusiasts behind the camera lens.
Every year, the month of April will mark the arrival of numerous photographic exhibits and artists, workshops, lectures and other related photographic events and activities in locations throughout the Greater Peterborough Region.
“This year’s contest will feature some Lakefield talent, as well as a few exhibits taking place in and around Lakefield,” says Spark volunteer Vikki Foy.
“Marlon Hazlewood will be exhibiting at the Stony Lake Furniture Co., Lakefield College School students will have a display at Nutshell NextDoor; Anna McShane will be at Celtic Connection; 11 year-old Mackenzie Vaughn-Graham will be putting on a solo show at the Chocolate Rabbit; Barbara Callander is at the Greenhouse on the River and Carolyn Maxwell will showcase her work at Griffins Greenhouses.”
At Peterborough’s Showcase Exhibit, extraordinary photographs which document cottage life on Stoney Lake and Juniper Island 100 years ago will be available for viewing.
The unique Fairbairn-Mackenzie Collection of prints from glass negatives has been in private storage for the past 100 years and in June 2013 Blair Mackenzie of Lakefield gave the collection to Trent Valley Archives.
All other exhibits feature an open call for registration.
