Rare diseases fundraiser at the BCC

by Ben Clarke

Area residents can take a break from the kitchen Feb. 28 and support a good cause at the Buckhorn Community Centre (BCC).

Feb. 28 is Rare Disease Day and BCC is supporting the Canadian Organization for Rare Diseases (C.O.R.D.) by hosting a spaghetti dinner and auction.

“One in 12 Canadians has a rare disorder. C.O.R.D. is Canada’s national network for organizations representing all those with rare disorders,” said BCC manager Judy McWhirter, in a letter presented to Trent Lakes Municipal Council at Tuesday’s meeting asking for their support.

“C.O.R.D. provides a strong common voice to advocate for health policy and a healthcare system that works for those with rare disorders. CORD works with governments, researchers, clinicians and industry to promote research, diagnosis, treatment and services for all rare disorders in Canada.”

Tickets are now on sale. Adults are $12, children under 12 are $6, and a family consisting of two adults and children under 12 is $30.

Dinner will begin at 6 p.m. with the auction to follow.

Call 705-657-8833 to reserve your ticket or drop by the BCC.
