Curling championship winds up in Ennismore

by Ben Clarke

It may not have been a local team but the Ennismore Curling Club pulled off a tournament to remember as the Travelers Ontario Senior Menís and Womenís Championship concluded last Sunday.

Two teams came away as provincial champions, as Kitchener-Waterloo Graniteís Peter Mellor and St. Catharinesís Marilyn Bodogh won the titles in the respective menís and womenís finals.

Mellor survived a last-end scare from Ottawa Russellís Bryan Cochrane to claim the crown 6-3 while Bodogh broke up a close encounter with Cataraquiís Dianne Wylie with four in the sixth and five in the eight for a 12-4 triumph.

Both are off to the national championships in Yellowknife in late March with Bodogh having to go through a relegation round just prior.

Bodogh, with Jane Hooper Perroud, Colleen Madonia and Kathy Chittley-Young had two world championship rings but never a provincial senior crown, until now.
