The Delray Granite Ennismore Eagles Midget C Girls are Provincial Bound
Congratulations to the Delray Granite Ennismore Midget C Girls in qualifying for the OWHA Provincial Championships.
At the beginning of the season, the team was asked what they would like to accomplish this year. Their answer was to win the Provincials, a very optimistic goal indeed.
Well, after going undefeated and finishing first in points in a double round robin series with Lindsay and Cold Creek, these girls have secured the chance of fulfilling that goal.
For some of the girls, it will be their last year of competitive hockey and a first crack at a Provincial Championship. In game one against the Cold Creek Comets, Ennismore takes a 3-1 victory, with goals from Alyssa DiLauro, Jessica Doherty and Kaitlyn Allan, assists by Molly Young, Rachel Degreef, Devin Fitzpatrick, Mercedes Mitchell and Shayna Esson.
In game two against the Lindsay Lynx, the Eagles battled back in the third to tie the game after being down 2-0 with goals from Mitchell and Doherty assisted by Rachele Bell and Fitzpatrick.
In game three, the Lindsay Lynx came on strong scoring within the first 30 seconds. Ennismore answered back with goals by Paige Cavanagh, Esson, Mitchell and Bell, assisted by Fitzpatrick, Mitchell and Courtney Crawford to win the game 4-1.
The final game against Cold Creek was a nail biter with a both teams playing a strong defensive game and outstanding goaltending again by the Eagles Courtney Crawford resulting in a 0-0 tie. Way to go girls! Provincials here we come!
