Ennismore Girls Midget C are Lower Lakes Female Hockey League Champions
A huge congratulations to the Ennismore Midget C Girls hockey team for winning the Lower Lakes Female Hockey League Championship and capturing the gold medal last weekend.
What an amazing weekend with every game a nail biter until the bitter end.
In game one vs the Cold Creek Comets, the Eagles were down 1-0 but not for long as Rachele Bell took a pass from Devin Fitzpatrick and fired a bullet from the blue line and tied it up, ending the game in a 1-1 tie.
In game two vs Lindsay Linx the Eagles took the lead with a goal by Natalee Barker assisted by Jessica Doherty and Bell.
Lindsay tied it up in the second, but the Eagles came back with 4.95 seconds left in the third with an amazing unassisted goal by Rachele DeGreef.
The Eagles played the Norfolk Hurricanes for the first time, battling to a 1-1 tie. Goal from Doherty, assisted by Young.
No losses, two ties and a win paved the way to the Gold Medal Game, and what a game it was.
Facing off against Norfolk for the second time, the Eagles battled back from a 1-0 deficit to end the game in a 1-1 tie. Barker took a beautiful pass from Young and scored bar down after Alyssa DiLauro made a great play at the blue line to keep the puck in the zone.
The game was still tied after five minutes of overtime, resulting in a shootout.
Norfolk elected to go first and no goals were allowed by either tender after three shooters each. Norfolk could not get past the outstanding goaltending of Courtney Crawford.
After their fourth shooter rang it off the crossbar, our team captain Devin Fitzpatrick stepped up and led the Eagles to gold with a fancy deke to win the championship.
Way to go Eagles! The Lower Lakes Female Hockey League Division Champions!
