Rotary spelling bee returns

Back by popular demand, the Rotary Club of Peterborough announces the 3rd Annual Spelling Bee at Fleming College Saturday, May 10!

Volunteer Rotarians are currently buzzing about Peterborough and area schools inviting staff and students to participate in the 2014 Spelling Bee. All participating schools will have Spelling Bee Bookmarks with the Junior and Senior Spelling Bee Word List to study.

Participating schools are encouraged to hold in-class mini Spelling Bees in April. School staff must email the names of the winners by April 30 to spellingbee@peterboroughrotary.ca.

A maximum of four students per school (two students from grades 4 – 6 and two students from grades 7 – 8). Open to home schoolers as well! Please contact us if you wish to participate.

Here’s the best part!

• The Rotary Spelling Bee is FREE!

• Every student who receives a book mark gets a coupon for a free ice cream cone at Baskin Robins;

• Advancing students have a chance to win an Apple iPad, Kobo eReader and a Tablet;

• 1st place school receives $1,000 towards a literacy project within the school;

• 2nd place school wins $500;

• 3rd place school wins $250;

The Rotary Club of Peterborough may award deserving schools money from the Rotary Literacy Bursary Fund.

Special consideration will be given to schools who engage all students in the learning of the 100 practice words.

Schools may also submit a proposal to the Rotary Club of Peterborough for additional funding through the Rotary Literacy Bursary Fund.
