Chiefs sweep Peach Kings
The Lakefield Fitzsimmons Towing and Repair Chiefs earned a berth in the Junior C Schmalz Cup Provincial Championship after an exciting 2-1 win over the Grimsby Peach Kings at home on Friday night (Apr. 11), winning the semi-final series in four games straight.
The Chiefs got on the scoreboard with just over a minute left in the first period when Captain Nathan Larson found the back of the net on a nice passing play from Ryan Anderson and Travis Brault.
The Chiefs would go up by two five minutes into the second when Jordan Walsh went top shelf on Peach King goalie Josh Astorino. Jessie Gregory and Eric Shewell drew the assists.
The Peach Kings with two men down closed the gap to one when Jeromy Hopkins stole the puck and went in on a break-a-way beating Chiefs goalie Zac Wainman.
There was no scoring in the third. The Chiefs will play the Essex 73ís in the final.
Wednesday (Apr. 9)
The Lakefield Fitzsimmons Towing and Repair Junior C Chiefs are one game away from making it to the finals of Junior C supremacy defeating the Grimsby Peach Kings 5-3 in Grimsby.
The Chiefs got on the scoreboard in the first 21 seconds of the game on a goal by Travis Brault with Nathan Larson and Eric Oosting drawing the assists.
They went up 2-0 before the period ended when Jordan Walsh found the back of the net from Derek Manley and Connor Blair.
The Peach Kings got the only goal in the second on the power play when Jordan McCarl beat Zac Wainman. For the third time in this series the Chiefs put the game away in the third scoring three consecutive goals with Jessie Gregory, Josh Duggan and Walsh scoring four minutes apart.
Manley assisted on all three and Walsh on two. The Peach Kings picked up a power play and short handed goal in the last five minutes of the third.
