Doug Andrews show at DD Library Art Gallery

Art Show and Sale by Doug Andrews, Renowned Canadian Artist will be held at the Douro-Dummer Library Art Gallery May 21 - July 19.

An Opening Celebration is scheduled for Friday June 6, 7 - 8 p.m.

All are welcome to join in celebrating ‘Sketches of Douro Dummer’ art show and sale!

Travel the back roads and through the forests and fields of Douro-Dummer with artist, Doug Andrews. Weathered farmsteads, the dark cedar woods of Warsaw Caves and the cool waters of the Indian River are among the scenes featured in this exhibition.

Most of the paintings are oil sketches on panels. Unlike Doug’s highly detailed canvasses, these are quick studies – fresh and spontaneous impressions, painted outdoors.

Growing up on his family’s farm on the Dummer-Asphodel Boundary, Doug was inspired to paint by his mother, Marg, who is also a painter.

“I have always revelled in the colour, light and compelling designs of the world around me,” said Doug. “Scenes from the countryside and everyday farm life have always been favourite subjects of mine.”

Doug studied art at Crestwood Secondary School and at the Ontario College of Art in Toronto. He is an elected member of the Society of Canadian Artists and has received many awards for his paintings in exhibitions across Canada.

Doug lives on a farm at Cottesloe where he has created wonderful gardens brimming with roses, day lilies, interesting trees and shrubs and many varieties of perennials. He is developing an orchard to maintain the more than 40 heirloom apple varieties he has collected and grafted.

You are invited to join friends and neighbours to celebrate the opening of ‘Sketches of Douro-Dummer’ on Friday, June 6, 2014 from 7:00 to 8:00 PM. The show and sale continues until July 19, during regular library hours, Tuesdays through Saturdays.

And now, as the weather improves, watch for Doug with his portable easel and his paints out and about in the Township.
