Douro-Dummer Civic Awards presented May 15

The Township of Douro-Dummer will be holding its Sixteenth Annual Civic Awards Night on Thursday, May 15.

Four Civic Awards will be given out to recognize the significant contributions that the recipients have made to our community through years of volunteering their time and services either as members of the community, members of our Township Boards & Committees or as members of the many service clubs and organizations within the municipality.

The recipients of the 2014 Civic Awards are: Alex Denys, Ross Moore, Ron Setterington and Doug Sims.

A Posthumous Award will be presented to Paul Quinlan in honour of Mike and Catherine Quinlan for their contributions to the fabric of the Douro-Dummer Community.

A Posthumous Award will be presented to the Douro-Dummer Public Library Board in honour of Larry Webster for this tireless work promoting the library and increasing literacy in the Township.

A Council Prestige Award will be presented to Murray Schafer for life long work composing, producing and performing music and his ongoing work as a music educator.

Council Recognition Awards will be presented to the M & M Disposal Douro Dukes Midgets for their OMHA title win this season.

“This is always the highlight of the year for Douro-Dummer, when we have the opportunity to say thank you to some very special people from today and yesterday.

“The heartbeat of our community has been generated by the volunteer efforts of people like this. It’s an honour for all of us to show them our appreciation” said Mayor J. Murray Jones.

The event will take place Thursday, May 15 at 7:00 p.m. at the Douro Community Centre, 2893 Highway 28.

Residents of the municipality are encouraged to come out and show their appreciation for these individuals.
