Chiefs up 2-0 in final

The Lakefield Fitzsimmons Towing and Repair Chiefs head on the road Saturday for game three of the Junior C Schmalz Cup Finals leading the series 2-0 after another convincing win in game two on Sunday in Lakefield defeating the Essex 73ís 5-1.

Scoring for the Chiefs were Eric Oosting, Nathan Larson, Ryan Saunders, Derek Manley and Connor Blair. Larson and Travis Brault chipped in with two helpers each with singles going to Oosting, Jordan Walsh, Keenan Runnalls and Bryce Sweeting.

Zac Wainman kept the Chiefs in the game early and picked up the win in net.

Games three and four will be played in Essex next Saturday and Sunday, April 26 and 27 with game five back in Lakefield Tuesday April 29.


The Fitzsimmons Towing and Repair Chiefs took game one of the Schmalz Cup Final against the Essex 73ís 5-0 before over just 550 fans at the Lakefield Arena on Saturday night.

The game was filled with penalties with the Chiefs scoring the first goal of the series when Jordan Walsh beat the Essex goalie from the slot on a nice feed from Ryan Anderson.

The Chiefs scored four unanswered goals in the second period to build an insurmountable lead. Shawn Mackie, Nathan Larson, Travis Brault on a penalty shot and Eric Oosting on a breakaway put the Chiefs up 5-0.

Assists went to Player of the Game Ryan Anderson with two. Also chipping in with two were Larson and Brault and Connor Blair picking up one.

As he has done all playoffs Zac Wainman picked up the win in net.
