Celebrate International Trails Week June 1-7 in Peterborough County
Residents are invited to take part in the third annual International Trails Festival during the week of Sunday, June 1 to Saturday, June 7, with free events taking place throughout Peterborough City and County.
“Trails offer a wonderful way to explore nature through the urban and rural landscapes of our region,” said Kathy Reid, Coordinator of Communications and Education with Otonabee Conservation.
“It’s inspiring to see so many community groups come together to create such an exciting array of family-friendly activities that we expect will draw hundreds out to the trails during the week-long festival.”
The festival kicks off on Sunday, June 1 with a celebration of all wheeled transportation – bikes, trikes, wheelchairs, strollers and walkers – at Ecology Park/Beavermead Park.
Throughout the week, community residents and visitors to the area can take part in organized walks, hikes and cycling opportunities on trails in Norwood, Bridgenorth, Lakefield, Millbrook and Lang to Hastings.
International Trails Day, which falls on Saturday, June 7, will include a celebration at the Harold Town Conservation Area (on the Old Norwood Road) with events and exhibitors from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The official declaration of International Trails Day and the opening of the Conservation Area will take place.
Locally, the festivities are being organized by a committee including Otonabee Conservation, Rotary Club of Peterborough, trails enthusiasts (Cycling Dudes, Cycle Chicks, Biker Babes), County of Peterborough, City of Peterborough, Selwyn Township, Township of AsphodelNorwood, Kawarthas Northumberland, Green-Up, B!KE, Peterborough Cycling Club, Kawartha Hiking Club, and the Peterborough-Hastings Trans Canada Trail Association.
