Civic Awards presented in Douro-Dummer

The 16th Annual Douro-Dummer Civic Awards Night was held on May 15 at the Douro Arena. A large crowd was on hand to pay tribute to this year’s recipients.

“It’s our yearly opportunity to say thank you, not only to the eight award winners, but to everyone who volunteers their time and effort into making our Township a great place to live,” said Mayor J. Murray Jones.

Members of Douro-Dummer Council were on hand to present Civic Awards to: Alec Denys, Ross Moore, Ron Setterington and Doug Sims.

Two Posthumous Awards were handed out to honour the community work of the late Mike and Catherine Quinlan and the late Larry Webster.

The yearly Council Prestige Award was given to R. Murray Schafer. This Township resident is a world renowned Canadian composer, writer, music educator and environmentalist, perhaps best known for his World Soundscape Project.

The Council Achievement Award was presented to the M&M Disposal Douro Dukes Midget hockey team which won the OMHA DD championship this year.

Following the ceremony, the C.W.L. served a delicious lunch.
