Pedal for Hope receives boost

The Lakefield and District Lions Club in partnership with Lakefield Foodland hosted the 10th Annual Pedal for Hope BBQ at Cenotaph Park in Lakfield on May 31. The food was donated by Foodland and cooked up by the Lions Club which raised $1,099. Foodland topped up the amount to $1,400 and the Lions matched the amount which totalled $2,800 which was donated to Cops for Cancer Pedal for Hope.

Detective John Townsend, one of the founding members of Pedal for Hope said that the partnership between Foodland, The Lions and Pedal for Hope has raised over $20,000 over ten years. The total amount raised by Pedal for Hope is $2.4 million.

Townsend was proud to state that money raised through the ride will be used to develop an app that will help screen pediatric cancer. The app is being developed at Sick Kids in Toronto and will be appropriately be titled “Pedal for Hope”. Pedal for Hope will direct $1 million of money raised for the project.
