Milestone year for Winery

John Rufa and Trish Dougherty of Kawartha Country Wines are celebrating a decade in business on July 12. Located in Buckhorn, Kawartha Country Wines has gained international recognition over the past 10 years, with awards including Intervin, The All Canadian Wine Championships and more.

With over 45 types of fruit and grape wines all 100 per cent Ontario grown and a complimentary sampling bar, the winery has also become a local favourite. Vintner and owner John Rufa is quick to thank the community for their success.

“Everyone thought I was crazy when I decided to start a winery in Buckhorn, but we’ve found a great community of wine lovers here, and it is thanks to them that we’ve reached this milestone.”

Trish Dougherty, who recently received a Premier’s Award of Excellence for her fruit vinegars, agrees. “We try to give everyone who visits a memorable experience, and the friends we have made in doing so have been the best part of it for us.”
